Gucci

Gucci is a remarkable stallion, sired by Dick Smith's "Black Horse" he has plenty of sought after bloodlines.  However he is a superb example in his own right.
He has very good conformation with a great sense of strength and balanced propertions. 

Most people spot a well turned out horse with a summer coat and in show condition.  In fact many folk can be distracted from conformation faults by a beautifully groomed cob with a tangle free, flowing mane and feathers.  This is perhaps why my mother used to tell me that a horse is better judged in the rough.  If the horse you want to buy can be seen covered in mud in it's field with a mane full of teasels then all the better because that way you are forced to consider it's structure and natural movement.  If you still like it and start to visualise the horse with a gleaming coat and a nice saddle or set of harness you know you are seeing potential and it is probably worth catching the horse and taking a closer look. 

I first met Gucci in his field in the middle of winter; it was very windy and raining and he had his winter coat yet he still looked gorgeous.  You can see from the above photo that he is a beautiful cob; lovely straight mane and plenty of straight feather coming off front and back and a dear little pretty head and ears.  I can speak from experience and tell you that this cob does not lose his magic when the sun stops shining and no amount of mud can disguise his beauty.  Most cob owners find that their cobs get bog burned if they winter them outside, however Gucci has strong feathers and although muddy that day they were still plentiful and long.

I watched Gucci from the gate, he noticed me at once and trotted over to say hello.  As I mentioned before I believe it is useful to observe a horse when doing it's own thing - often when we view a horse to buy or a stallion to serve a mare we watch it trotted up in hand and I know that most horses can be encouraged to look a bit better with training and handling.  In my opinion a good horse has it naturally and Gucci certainly does; despite the uneven, slippery ground he showed a lovely trot, he has a powerful, straight movement yet is light and agile with some natural elevation.  I noticed also that he has a superb walk with a nice stride.  There are plenty of cobs about that have poor hind quarter action, Gucci has fantastic movement and strength from the back as well as the front end.

At approximately 13hh with great structure and depth of girth Gucci is a useful stallion for size and versatility, he would improve mares of various type.  He is what is known as a generous stallion as he does pass on his quality to his offspring - I will find photos to prove this point but for the moment, please taken it from he that he has sired some good ones.
